1ST STEP OF NEW ROOF INSTALLATION: GET RID OF THE OLD ROOF
Out with the old and in with the new! In order to replace Bob’s roof and get his home protected with a new one, we had to scrape off and clear away all of the shingles and damaged layers of his old roof. We found some interesting things hiding under his old roof. Before installing Bob’s new roof we had to take care of these problems, otherwise, he could have had ongoing problems with his home. These things could have potentially led to more expensive and serious home repairs.
It’s good to get your roof inspected and checked if it’s older than 10 or 15 years. You never know when you may need a roof replacement. REPAIRING WATER DAMAGE ON BOB’S ROOF INSTALLATION IN WAYNE PA
These images make it really clear how water damage under the asphalt shingles of any roof can cause big problems. We found more than one spot of rotten plywood on the roof decking (or roof sheathing) as we stripped away Bob’s old shingles. This happens when the shingles and protective roofing layers get old and begin to fail.
You can actually see, at the base of Bob’s chimney, that the water damage was so severe that it had begun to damage the chimney itself. Smucker’s had a solution for Bob that would prevent that chimney damage from reoccurring after the new roof was installed. PREVENTING FUTURE WATER DAMAGE ON THIS WAYNE PA NEW ROOF INSTALLATION
This tiny little “mini-peak” is often called a chimney cricket. This little build will channel all that damaging water away from the seam where the base of the chimney meets Bob’s roof. By doing this, we’re ensuring that Bob won’t have to worry about more water damage in this area and it is a small way for him to protect his new roof installation investment for many years to come. We also did a better job with the chimney flashing that will protect the sides of Bob’s chimney where it meets the roof. Chimneys are often a weak spot on homeowners’ roofs and they don’t even know it. Poor chimney flashing installation and the absence of structures like a little chimney cricket almost guarantee water damage over time that will destroy the integrity of the roof and maybe more.
